Understanding Big Emotions

  • Why powerful emotions present

  • Becoming aware of emotional triggers

  • Respond to emotions rather than reacting to them

  • Allowing emotions to inform rather than intimidate us

Sometimes we can experience overwhelming or uncontrollable emotions that lead to undesirable actions and behaviours in ourselves or others.

For example: overwhelming fear can lead to avoidance, missed oppotunities and maybe even isolation; whereas uncontrollable anger may result in us speaking and acting in ways that hurt ourselves or even others. The tricky thing is, these emotions can be so powerful that we have limited control over them at the time.

Emotions are part of our everyday life and play a critical role in understanding how we view our relationship with the world around us. Sometimes, however, we can place so much significance on our feelings - or the thoughts that precede them - that we begin living our lives in ways that contradict what we really want or what is most important to us.

Seeking professional counselling for understanding these big and powerful emotions can be the first step toward gaining greater awareness of your feelings and leading your life in a positive and wholesome direction!
