Understanding Crisis & Recovery

  • How our lives change through crisis

  • Develop self-care and coping strategies

  • Responding to crisis & adapting to change

  • Build confidence and learn to take action

The first half of 2020 bore some of the most challenging of circumstances for us as a nation.  In addition to COVID-19 and its consequential health, economic and social isolation implications, we were still attempting to recover from the devastation brought on from drought, bushfires and floods.  As a result, our nation will forever be changed.

The lived human experience will inevitably throw unexpected challenges our way, both as a collective society and as individuals.  Sometimes these experiences can be so profound that change is inevitable and out of our control.  As a result, we may experience loss, grief, altered outlook on life, disruption of our belief systems and even identity crisis.  Needless to say, it is important to remember that although some things have drastically changed or disappeared altogether, such adversity prompts us to adapt.  Adaptation, although not easy, is a learnt skill that enables us to transform adversity into prosperity despite life’s unrelenting challenges.

Often however, we may feel under-equipped or lacking confidence to face such circumstances.  Even if we do manage to overcome or push through such experiences, we can easily overlook some very important aspects of self-care, which may lead to delayed mental health and relationship complications down the track.  Seeking professional support during a crisis and in the wake there after, can help develop healthy coping strategies, build the fortitude to embrace personal and relationship challenges, and help in the meaning making process.
